Evaluation Question 3

3. What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

After doing extensive research, we discovered that StudioCanal would be a viable distributor for our film "Presence". The company produced a film called "The Apparition" which is extremely similar to "Presence", due to the concept of the film and the possessed female character. It's also a horror genre, which "Presence" also is.

Not only that, Studio Canal have distributed a wide array of commercially and critically acclaimed films with many different themes of genres. One of the company's most early distributions was "Terminator 2: Judgment Day" which was massively successful and proves the company has experience with distributing massive films as well as smaller/lower budget films. A distributor with this kind of experience and expertise is what is needed to distribute our film and have it make the largest profit.

"The Apparition", evidence that StudioCanal has experience with films similar to our own.

Other options

Warner Brothers, another possible film distributor.
An example of a Warner Brothers horror film distribution.

Warner Brothers is one of the big six film production companies and could easily produce and distribute our film as they are so popular and well known. Warner Brothers also produce a lot of films with a massive variety of different genres. "You're Next" is only one example of Warner Brothers producing horror.

Lionsgate
Lionsgate is another well known distributor and producer of horror films, distributing films such as Saw.

Production company

We created our own company logo called 'EB Productions'. By doing this, people would then associate the logo with the film, and therefore make it recognizable for other films. We wanted the logo to be recognized for creating intense, good quality films, attracting audiences of teens and above. It would most likely be an independent film distributor and would consist of British films, due to the location of its origin.

Marketing

The film would be marketed by advertisements in the cinema beforehand, TV spots, a website on the internet and just general word of mouth. The film could be popular enough to be showed in mainstream cinemas such as Cineworld, Odean and Vue and among the most popular cinema companies, and our film playing there would be absolutely brilliant as those cinemas attract a massive amount of potential viewers, both in and outside of our target audience.

Post cinema screening, it would most definitely be released on DVD and shown on TV under perhaps Sky Movies and on Virgin. If successful enough, a contract could be negotiated to allow it to be streamed on sites such as Netflix and Lovefilm Instant.

All of these distribution methods follow the method in which most films would be released, so following them would be the most obvious course of action.

Cineworld, one of the major cinema companies.
Odeon, another one of the Cinema companies.

Evaluation Question 6

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?
This is a screenshot of the editing process we used on premier. This shows the software we used. The small squares represent how we edited and cut the clips together. Also how we added sound effects, the soundtrack we used throughout, foley, and added audio.
This screen shot shown above demonstrates how we improved the quality of lighting. The screen shot below shows how the original lighting was way to bright, and distorted the shot. We changed this by getting rid of the bright lights when filming, and just used the natural lighting. We filmed a lot earlier so that we wouldn't have to use extra lighting, and could just work with what we had. We tried editing the lighting on premier, but it just looked grainy and not very profesional.

Prelim Task (Cheater)

Juno Remake

This is my remake of the juno opening scene using a variety of shots.

Representations

Alex Turner and Miles Kane are portrayed to be sort of old fashioned and dated, they are modern people that are shown in a way to look older.
They are pale, showing old fashioned editing, they are wearing 80's style casual, holligan sor tof clothes.
The writing is in a bold red, representing passion, blood, and patriotic maybe.
The clothes and way they are looking show a cheeky and mysterious look.

Denotation's and Connotation's- Bad Education

This is a poster of the TV programme, Bad Education. Without watching the programme you can find, denotation's and connotation's, here are my own ones I have found.

Denotation's-
Connotation's-

Boy in wheelchair- Happy, joker.

Boy being strangled with tie- Unhappy, looks like he is or has been bullied, particularly by the boy strangling him, looks like the target, easy person to bully.

Boy using his tie to strangle-  Bully, naughty and bad behaved student, maybe a chavvy sort of character.

Teacher/Main character- Stressed, bored, unhappy to be there, looks like he's got his hand full.

Boy with hand on his head- Show off, attention seeker, bad behaved.

Girl grabbing teacher- Stuck up, bitchy, fancies the teacher, annoying.

Girl holding books- Clever, well educated, eager to learn, does not like the other students, keeps herself to herself, very intelligent, likes to show her intelligence off.

Opening sequence- DISTINCT

This is the opening scene to 'The Football Factory', this opening scene clearly shows and helps understand the genre straight away. The genre is shown in this opening scene so the audience instantly know what they are going to be watching.

Crime/Drama

D- This film has quite a mixed genre, its is both thriller and crime, but also drama.
The film is a very violent film with many action filled fighting scenes, this opening sequence shows you this instantly this and portrays the outlook which is consistent throughout the film.
It has the plot based on 'Football Hooligans' and tells the story of a typical Game day in the early 80's.
Fans of either team would basically attempt to violently fight against each other, each time trying to catch each other out as this scene shows you.
The Crime genre is typically linked with gangsters and mobs, surrounded in violence and murders. This film falls straight in to this genre because of its instant violence and with stereotypical gangster characters heavily involved.
It also falls into Drama, as there is a element of the drama genre features, for example its sets with realistic characters and realistic settings, also with real life situations.
I-^^^^^

S- Football stadiums, streets, pubs, wasteland, parks.

T- Violence, victory, wealth, drugs, revenge, reputation, recognition, swearing.

I- Drugs, weapons, knife, gun, casual clothing.

N- To be the best 'Firm' around? - By winning fights to gain reputation which takes them to the top, everyone is then scared of them.

C- Gangsters, violent people, good, bad. Danny Dyer plays the main character, who is a man struggling to decide the path he wants to take in life.

T-  The camera does a lot of close ups which allows the audience to witness the fighting scene very effectively, the sound is also important as the sound of big groups of men brawling has a good effect and shows you the setting of the plot well. Swearing also features a lot, which is typical of a situation like this. Its also edited so it goes into slow motion, when the lady shouts at the men, Danny Dyer's character reacts and the scene slows down to show you his thoughts of the ladies comments.
